History of Lake Point in Tooele
County, Utah
When
Mormon Pioneers first entered Tooele Valley in 1847, they passed
through today's Lake Point. So did the Donner Reed Party on its way
to California in 1846, as did the Lincoln Highway, America's first
transcontinental roadway in 1914. Lake Point and the nearby
shoreline of the Great Salt Lake were popular retreats during the
1800's, featuring several beach resorts, such as the
Saltair Resort, that allowed swimmers to
experience buoyancy the lake's salty water.
Besides its rich history, Lake Point offers Oquirrh Motor Inn guests
front row seats for watching one of northern Utah's legendary
sunsets. After the sun dips below the horizon, a gaze to the east
shows the lighted TV and radio antenna arrays atop the Oquirrh
Mountain's
Farnsworth Peak, which was names after Philo T. Farnsworth,
inventor of the television set. |
